Home Decor Projects

I love doing projects on the cheap.... okay I love just about anything on the cheap, except a man! Lol

So, when I came across this great picture and this great blog ChicModernVintage, I had to blog about it. I love the cleanness and brightness of the room. I have seen these circle Abaca pendant lamps in a lot of stores and in magazines, and always wanted a few for my house, and now thanks to ChicModernVintage I can make them myself, in any color I want and get them the way I like them, on the cheap!

There are a lot more do it yourself projects on the site as well, and it's great for those who are crafty, and want to make something more personal and unique. There's even a YouTube video and pics to show you how to do it, so get to it!

Get Something And Wave!

A traditional sign of the end of summer in New York, is the West Indian Labor Day Parade. This annual parade is a sea of vibrant colors of costumes, that can leave very little to the imagination for all the skin that can be on display, but here in the states its very tame in comparison to the many other places that celebrate carnival.

There is a strong injection of reggae, calypso and soca music that fills the streets several nights before the actual parade. There's even a kiddie "mas" parade two days before, that's a parade for children dressed up in vibrant costumes similar to the adults.

Eastern Parkway, in Brooklyn is normally crowded but the parade brings thousand of people to enjoy the music, costumes and the variety of foods and drinks that are traditionally from the West Indies.

It's a good time to be had by all!
