I was so upset with the MTA Train system on Saturday, I had to blog about it. The fares in New York keep going up and yet the service, just gets worse!
My son and I go into the city every Saturday, he's a fencer! Now normally we would take about 45 minutes to get from Brooklyn to Manhattan, and we take two trains to get there.
So, while we're on the 2 train we stop at the Wall St station, and then there's the announcement that there is police activity at 34Th Street station and the train is no longer in service!? WTF? There are at least 11 train stops between Wall St and 34Th St station, so WHY did the train go out of service at Wall Street? If it had move through to the next station, Fulton St, we would not have had to get out and walk across to Wall St on the number 4 train line.
Once we got to the station, on top of everything the token booth clerk gave me an attitude, cause I asked her to let us through the gate, because we had just walked from the other station, and I was not about to pay again, just to continue our trip.
There was no token clerk at the 2 train Wall St station, to give us walking tickets, which would have allowed us to get on for free at the 4 train Wall St station.
Once we get on the number 4 train, I look at the map and figured our best option is to get off the next stop Fulton St, and transfer to the A train that would get us closer to our final destination.
The 4 train is quite and there is no mention of delays! We get off the train at Fulton St, as soon as the doors close, an MTA worker announces that the A train is not running, so now we have to wait once again just to get back on the 4 train that we just got off of!
Unbelievable, why was this not announced to the passengers on the 4 train before we pulled into the Fulton train station? I wouldn't have gotten off and wasted my time! Finally back on the 4 train, we transfer to another train at Union Square and then walk across several blocks!
All of this could have been avoided if the MTA had some sense! Made announcements early and often, and stopped wasting the paying customers time with all the running around unnecessarily!
One of the things that makes New York a great city is that we have a train system that is vast, and we can walk almost anyway in the boroughs, you simple don't have that in most other states! But we are also dependent on the system! A system that gets worst and worst and more expensive, year after year! We, as New Yorkers are up against a rock and a hard place when it come to the MTA, and we are paying for it!
